The big kitchen re-do of 2006 is done! Somehow, we just did not get around to posting updates on a regular basis as I had hoped. I know…big surprise.
Still, we did manage to regularly take photos of the progress and post them online. Check them out here.

Operation Cocina Divina — we simply call it “OCD” — officially began this morning. Off came the chair rails. The old cabinets, countertop, sink, and dishwasher are all gone. Because of the electrical rewiring, the baseboards are off and there is all manner of old-house creepiness on display in the kitchen. Our house was built in 1914 and there are remnants of the old electrical system and radiator pipes in the walls (the radiators, with their water now heated by natural gas, are still in use).
Wow. No turning back now. You can see a few photos of the progress here.

Disregard that previous post from, oh, however many months ago it was. I should have known we were too busy to try and maintain much of a blog. In addition to both of us working full-time, I remain deep in the throes of grad school and Mark is teaching a pretty heavy stats class.
That said, we might have found an excuse to make time to update this site regularly. At least for the next month or two. Who knows, maybe we can build enough momentum to keep it going longer. You see, after nearly five years of talking about it, Mark and I have signed on all manner of dotted lines and financially encumbered ourselves for a fairly substantial kitchen re-do. It occurred to me that this website might be the perfect medium for tracking its progress, keeping various interested parties up-to-date, and, should the need arise, allowing us to vent.
We’re calling this project Operation Cocina Divina. Loosely translated, that’s Heavenly Kitchen, a hopeful reference to the new-and-dramatically-improved room we call the Kitchen from Hell or, simply, the Hellhole. Our contractor notified us Monday that they will begin the teardown of our existing cabinets and countertops in two weeks. We’re counting the days.
